Jon Madray (born 01/02/1993) is a Guyanese-American Actor, and DJ/producer. He is most notable for his comedy skits and shorts on social media, which also led him to fulfill a career in film.[1] He has been featured on Saturday Night Live, No Passport Required, Creed 2, Corner Shop Show and more. [2]

Early Life[edit]

Madray was born in Queens, New York, the son of Indera and Deven Madray. He has two younger brothers, Ryan and Ethan, and a younger sister, Jaya Madray. His early interest in music came from his father, who also played music as a hobby. Madray started his career at the young age of 13, playing for his friends' backyard birthday parties, which led to weddings and various formal events. [3]

Career[edit]

(2006-2014)[edit]

In 2006 up until 2014, Madray played at various bars and clubs around Queens and Manhattan, and eventually branched out into music production where he initially produced progressive house music. This lead to him creating a fusion of both dance and Caribbean elements in his tracks.[4] He created various soca remixes, mixtapes, original productions and a weekly podcast series called "The Monday Mixtape."

In 2011, his tracks were regularly played on NY radio stations and clubs, and over the next few years he attained bookings at various venues around New York City, such as Pacha NYC, Space, the Best Buy Theater, Highline Ballroom, Hudson Terrace, District 36, and System.[5] He has also shared the stage with other acclaimed DJs and artists such as Major Lazer, 3LAU, PartyNextDoor, Dyro, Laidback Luke, and more.

In 2012, Madray released his first productions on Beatport and iTunes and performed at several international shows. Later that year, Madray completed an official collaboration with Grammy nominated producer, Avicii, on his track "X You."[6] He also established Sonar Projects as his official management team and performed at the famous Best Buy Theater in Times Square for Bounce Music Festival and in Seaside Heights for Electric Adventure Festival in 2014.

(2014-present)[edit]

In 2015, Madray started to fulfill his interests in film. Along with his friends and brother (Prnc Charming and Ryan Madray), Jon started gaining popularity for his short comedy skits on Instagram and Facebook. Several skits broke over a million views and his most popular skit racked up 10.8 million views on Facebook. Madray has also collaborated with actresses and artists such as Jay Pharoah, Sonna Rele, Islah Abdur-Rahman and Chhavi Verg, and plans to continue film along with music.[7]

In 2018, Madray appeared on the series' Billions, Modern Love, Mr. Robot, & Saturday Night Live. He also appeared in movies Creed II and The Corner Shop Show "Thank You Come Again" and was featured on award winning chef Marcus Samuelsson's TV series "No Passport Required," where he discussed his Guyanese heritage and foods, and how he incorporates his culture into his style of music.
