Jones (first name unknown; fl. 1885) was an American professional baseball player who played one game with the New York Metropolitans. On April 30, 1885, Jones made his American Association (AA) debut with the Metropolitans, playing against the Philadelphia Athletics. Jones played as a third baseman for the Metropolitans in the game. Jones's first name, date of birth, birthplace, and batting stance were not recorded, and are still unknown.

Despite finishing in first place in the AA the previous season, on April 29, 1885, the Metropolitans' record stood at 3 wins and 5 losses, second last in the league. The next day, the Metropolitans played against the Philadelphia Athletics at Polo Grounds I in Manhattan. Jones covered third base for the Metropolitans in his first appearance in the AA, where he recorded two putouts and four assists, with one hit at four at bats for a batting average of .250. The Metropolitans lost the game 2–1, and Jones did not make an appearance in the AA again. Newspaper accounts recounted that Jones had played a "very good game", and an article about the game in The New York Times stated that it was believed that Jones would join the Metropolitans, although he never played for them again.

On April 30, 1885, The Metropolitans played the Athletics again, at Polo Grounds I in Manhattan.[1] Jones played as third baseman for the Metropolitans in his first game in the AA; an article in The New York Times stated that "A new man covered third base for the local team. He is an amateur, and gave his name as "Jones.""[2]

Defensively, Jones recorded two putouts and four assists. When batting, Jones had one hit at four at bats, for a batting average of .250.[3][4]

The Metropolitans lost to the Athletics 2–1.

Multiple newspapers reported on Jones's performance in the game. Both The New York Times and Sporting Life remarked that Jones had played "a very good game".[1][2] The New York Times said that Jones was expected to join the Metropolitans; however, Jones never played for the team again.[2]
