Jonita Louise Davis (born May 9, 1980) is an American author, journalist, and film critic.[1][2][3] She is a member of the African American Film Critics Association and the National Association of Black Journalists, and her work appears at several publications, including The Washington Post, The Guardian, Syfy Wire, among others.[4][1][5]

Biography[edit]

Jonita Davis was born in Michigan City, Indiana, where she still lives. Davis holds a bachelors and a master's degree in English from Purdue University. After graduating with her first degree, she started writing reported pieces for various outlets and, in 2018, initiated writing entertainment work. Davis often writes about being a young working mom and the struggles that comes with it.[6] She currently teaches writing at Waubonsee Community College and Aurora University, and she regularly writes about family, culture, politics, and other social issues.[7][8][9]

Davis is a Rotten Tomatoes approved film critic and the founder of The Black Cape Magazine. Davis has four books published.[3][10][11][12]

Personal life[edit]

Davis lives in Michigan City, Indiana, and teaches introduction to Academic Writing at the Aurora University.[13] Besides writing about film, she also frequently writers about African America issues, parenting, politics, and other social and cultural topics.[14][15] She is married to Donovan Davis and has six kids.[16]
