The JoopeA or the JoopeA Foundation (Persian: بنیاد ژوپی‌آ, Dutch: Stichting JoopeA), is a non-profit organization established in Iran but it is registered in the Netherlands. Most of it's works focus on LGBTIQ Rights in Iran.
History[edit]
The JoopeA founded in 2009 in Iran. But it got known mostly because of the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT) pictures in Iran in 2012[1][2]. This is the reason why it is called a Social Network website with Persian pages[3] that is a trustworthy space for LGBT Rights activists.[4].
JoopeA is registered officially in the Chamber of Commerce in the Netherlands (Kamer van Koophandel) since 2014.[5]
Activities[edit]
While LGBTIQ people in the Middle East weren't successful in their fight against heavy internet censorship from 2012, JoopeA has become a domestic viable online space for LGBTIQ activists in Iran.[4]
Beside being a Social Network, JoopeA is involved in many LGBTIQ Rights activities such as the IranPride Day.[6][7] the Iran in Amsterdam Pride 2017[8][9] and organizing the Iran Boat (Dutch: Iraanse Boot, Persian: قایق ایران).[10][11] Iranian queers and human rights activists gathered together on the boat to march in the Amsterdam Canal Pride Parade 2018.[12] This boat has won the award of the Best Participant in Amsterdam Pride 2018 (Dutch: Publieksprijs).[13]
JoopeA has a library of Persian media on related topics to Sexual Rights that calls JNews (Persian: کارگاه خبر ژوپی‌آ).[14] It also publishes e-books such as Historiography of Homan group (Persian: تاریخ‌نگاری هومان)[15][16] and A Queer Satisfaction (Persian: لذت از نوع کوییر).[17]

For those unable to bypass government censorship, domestic social networking websites such as Joopea are viable alternatives for LGBTQ activists.
