Jordan Harry is a British entrepreneur, CEO, public speaker, and mixed martial artist.[1] He is the co-founder of speed reading, memory, and public speaking training provider StudyFast.[2]

He can read 1,500 words per minute, seven times faster than the average reader.[3][4] He also has a recorded reading speed of 1175 words per minute with 83% comprehension.[5]

Early Life

Jordan Harry was born on the 20th of February 1997[6] in Chigwell, Essex and grew up in Feltwell, Norfolk. His father was Nigerian and his mother British, the child of Russian and Dutch Jewish immigrants.[7]

Primary School

When Jordan was 10, he suffered from a speech impediment which left him unable to speak in public and pronounce words starting with a 's' or 'f'.[8] This resulted in bullying and difficulties with reading comprehension.

However, his mother took him to speech therapy every day after school, thereby improving his ability to speak in public and read.[9] He credits his mother for beginning his 15-year speed reading journey.[10] He later learned strategies from world leading speed readers that enhanced his reading ability.[11]

High School

When Jordan moved from Essex to Norfolk, he experienced a massive culture shock because he went from being a part of the majority to becoming part of a very small minority - one of three black students in his entire school. He has remarked that he "...was an ambassador for black people world-wide in Norfolk, in the sense that I was the first person of colour many had interacted with".[12]

As a result, Jordan had a difficult learning experience during his teenage years. One of his teachers told him that he stood out, but that he needed to stand out for the right reasons.[13] He credits this experience with inspiring him to get involved in education and change the narrative of what it means to be a young black man.[14]

University

Jordan was inspired by a TEDx Talk titled "Why You Should Read a Book a Day" by Tai Lopez. He would later go on to give a similar talk at the TEDxBathUniversity event that would get over a million views on YouTube.

In 2018, Jordan graduated from the University of Bath with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sport psychology and Social science.

While at university, Jordan was involved in athletics, becoming a finalist in several national championships.[15] He was also involved in with several student societies including Bath Entrepreneurs, Enterprise Bath and the African-Caribbean Society.

Jordan also worked with Alison Edgar for three months whilst studying at the University of Bath.

Career

Before starting StudyFast, Jordan went to work full-time with Alison Edgar for three months whilst studying full-time at the University of Bath.

StudyFast was founded by Jordan Harry on September 14th, 2015. The company originally worked with the funding and support of Virgin StartUp Loans and the Santander Internship.[16]

Jordan started consulting for SETsquared in May 2019.[17]

Awards and Recognition

On March 24th 2018, Jordan gave a TEDx Talk at his university titled "How to Read a Book a Day",[18][19] and within one year reached over 1 million views on YouTube.

He was a finalist for South West Entrepreneur of the Year 2018.
