Jordan Koop
Jordan Koop (born November 26th, 1981) is a sound engineer, record producer and musician based on Gabriola Island, British Columbia. Since 2002, he has recorded a significant number of critically acclaimed Canadian musicians, most notably, Orville Peck, Wolf Parade, Rae Spoon and Mecca Normal. He has owned and operated, The Noise Floor, a retreat recording studio now located on Gabriola Island since 2010.[1]
in 2020, Koop joined musician Spencer Krug as the guitar player in his band.[2]
Overview[edit]
Jordan Koop started his career as an intern at Mushroom Studios in Vancouver, before becoming an intern at The Hive Creative Labs under head engineer, Colin Stewart. He went on to freelance recording before becoming the in-house engineer at The Emergency Room, an underground venue, recording studio and art space located in the Strathcona neighbourhood of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
He was an intergral part of the "weird punk" scene in Vancouver[3] recording many key artists from that era including White Lung and Nu Sense and as the drummer in his own band,Twin Crystals. He also recorded The Emergency Room: Volume 1[4] - a full length compilation of artists who had preformed or recorded at the ER.
In 2010, Koop moved to Ladysmith, BC and opened the first location of The Noise Floor Recording Studio[5] with his Wife and business partner Terry, before moving permanently to Gabriola Island in 2013.
In 2015, Koop trained at La Fabrique Recording Studio in France, under acclaimed recording engineer, Steve Albini.[6]
