Jordyn Woods (born September 23, 1997) is an American model, entrepreneur, socialite, and occasional singer. She is known for her role in the reality television show, “Life of Kylie” and for her self-uploaded YouTube videos.
Early life[edit]
Jordyn Woods was born to John and Elizabeth Woods in Los Angeles, on September 23, 1997.[2][3][4] She has two brothers, including John Woods, Jr., who is an artist, and a sister, Jodie Woods.[5][6] She was raised in Oak Park, California, a predominantly white neighborhood, and remembers being one of only two Black girls at her school.[7][2] Woods' parents later divorced, and she moved around frequently, eventually deciding to do homeschooling after her family moved to Calabasas, California when she was thirteen.[2][3] Her mother, Elizabeth Woods, is a talent and brand manager and is also Woods' manager.[3][8] Her father was a sound engineer and worked on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and her family is close with Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, who she considers her uncle and aunt.[2][3][9][10][11] Woods modeled briefly as a child.[12] Woods' father died from cancer when she was nineteen.[4][13][7]
Career[edit]
Woods was signed to Wilhelmina in 2015 after an agent discovered her on Instagram and asked if she was interested in modeling.[11][12] In May 2016, Woods walked her first runway in the Lane Bryant and Christian Siriano fashion show.[2][11][14] Woods was a model for Khloé Kardashian's clothing company, Good American, from 2016 until 2019.[9][15] She left the company in February 2019.[9]
In 2017, Woods walked in her first New York Fashion Week show.[11][16] That same year, Woods starred alongside Kylie Jenner in the reality television show, Life of Kylie,.[17][18][19] appearing in all eight episodes of the show.[3] The show featured a “friendship ceremony” in which Jenner and Woods officially sealed their friendship while on a trip to Peru.[3]
In August 2018, Woods launched her own size-inclusive activewear line, SECNDNTURE.[14][9][20][6] In September 2018, Kylie Cosmetics launched the Kylie x Jordyn collection, a collaboration between the two friends.[21][3] In June 2019, Woods launched a clothing line with Boohoo.com.[6][22] In July 2019, Woods starred in Rick Ross's music video,[4][23] and appeared on the cover of the July 2019 issue of Cosmopolitan UK.[24][25][7] In October 2019, Woods launched a hair extensions line with Easilocks.
Woods made her acting debut in 2019 on an episode of grown-ish, in which she played Dee. Her character was living in a dorm and contemplating suicide, and the resident director worked to bring awareness to black mental health on campus.[26][6] Woods was also a celebrity guest on the 2019 season of VH1's Hip Hop Squares.[27][28] She also appeared on the BET+ film Sacrifice.[29]
Woods was a contestant on season three of The Masked Singer, which aired in 2020. Woods competed as “Kangaroo.”[1][30]
In October 2020 Woods collaborated with PrettyLittleThing, creating the Quarantine Collection.[31][32] Additionally, she had a leading role in a 2020 BET+ film, Trigger, as Vanessa Mass.[29][33]
Personal life[edit]
Woods has been open about her struggle with her body image and the impact that growing up in Hollywood had on her self-image.[12][14][34]
Woods lived with Kylie Jenner, her best friend at the time, until February 2019 and often helped Jenner take care of her daughter, Stormi Webster.[15][11] Woods narrated Jenner's birth announcement video.[35] In May 2020, Woods began dating Karl-Anthony Towns.[36][37] She rents a house in Los Angeles.[6]
