Joseph Earl Blackfoot

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Joseph Earl Blackfoot is a murderer who killed two women in Tullahoma, Tennessee in 1961 and 1964. He evaded police capture and was never seen again.[1]

Early life[edit]

Not much is known about Blackfoot's early life, except that he likely grew up in the areas around Tulahoma. In his youth, he was described as "an outsider, someone who doesn't seem to talk to anyone."[2]

Murders[edit]

On March 18, 1961, Karen Arnold left work after having been working overtime. While on her way home, she was abducted by Blackfoot, who shot her six times before dumping her body in a lake. Her body was found by police six days later. The case initially went unsolved, and it was not until several years later that new DNA evidence revealed Blackfoot as the killer.[1]

Blackfoot did not kill again until three years later. On June 7, 1964, Suzanne Leary was walking to her brother's house at night. Police theory is that she was run off the road by Blackfoot and fled into the woods. Blackfoot shot Leary in the neck and stabbed her several times in the chest. Her body was found in a shallow grave by police the next morning.[1]

Disappearance[edit]

On November 6, 1965, Blackfoot went on a date with his acquaintance Patricia Gareth. While Blackfoot was driving Gareth home, he suddenly stopped at the side of the road and got out of the car. According to Gareth, he was "just standing there and muttering to himself." When Gareth got out of the car to ask him what was wrong, he turned around and shot her twice in the chest. Gareth regained consciousness in a ditch that Blackfoot had left her in. She crawled to a road and convinced a man in a truck to drive her to the hospital. Two police officers went to Blackfoot's home to arrest him, but he escaped by crawling over a fence in his backyard. Blackfoot ran to his vehicle and managed to escape capture by the police. He was never seen again and his current whereabouts are unknown.[3]
