Joseph Iaruel (born 25 January 1998) is a Vanuatuan footballer who plays as a defender for Vanuatuan club Shepherds United and the Vanuatu national team.[1]

Club career[edit]

Iaruel started his career with the Teouma Academy, the national academy of Vanuatu. After a good performance at the 2015 OFC U-17 Championship he was offered a scholarship by St Peter's College.[2] He stayed with them for over a year before returning to Vanuatu.

International career[edit]

He has capped at the under-17 and under-20 levels, including the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup.[1]

In 2017 Iaruel was called up for the Vanuatu national football team. He made his debut on November 23, 2017, in a 1–0 loss against Estonia when he played the whole 90 minutes.[3]

Personal life[edit]

Joseph has an older brother called Seiloni Iaruel who plays as a goalkeeper for Amicale.
