Joseph Thornton Tweddle

Joseph Thornton Tweddle (14 April 1865 – 16 July 1943) was a British businessman and philanthropist.[1][2]

Early life and background

He was born on April 14, 1865, in Winlaton, Durham, England. He received his education at the local council school.[3][4][5]

Life

He served as a councillor and president at Queen's College and Wesley College, funding extensions for both institutions.[6] Influenced by Maude Primrose and Dr. J. W. Springthorpe, he financed the Tweddle Hospital for Babies and School of Mothercraft, which opened in 1924.[7][8][9][10]
