Josephine Burton is the artistic director and chief executive of Dash Arts, an international arts organisation, that she co-founded with Tim Supple in 2005.[1]
Early life[edit]
Burton grew up in London and studied Classics at Oxford University. At university, Burton practised drama and arts journalism. With Jonathan Walton, she co-founded and sang in Oi Va Voi and formed YaD,[2] an organisation that promoted the arts of the Jewish diaspora[3]
Career[edit]
Burton is the creator of over 80 new pieces of cross art-form work and producer of over 300 gigs at venues including Barbican, Royal Albert Hall, Oval Space, Roundhouse, Sadler’s Wells[4] and South Bank Centre. She is a music advisor for PRS Foundation, professional vocalist and regular host of Dash Arts Podcast,[5] Dash Cafés[6] and events.[7] Burton is also a Salon Guest Artist for Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts.[8]

- Creation of an ensemble of rappers from across the Arabic Region, Lyrical Alliance,[16] with the Roundhouse and new work exploring classical music across the post-soviet world, the Renegade Orchestra
- Commission of an adaptation of a Lemony Snicket short story with Tall Stories and the award-winning The Table with Blind Summit[17]
- Commission and production of Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Damien Jalet, and Antony Gormley on the Olivier Award-winning Babel at Sadler’s Wells and with choreographer Hofesh Shechter on Plagues
- Creation and direction of Cold Wars at Tate Modern and the Dash Arts Dacha[6][18] with British Library, Latitude Festival and other festivals
