Joshua M. Divine is an American lawyer serving as Solicitor General of Missouri and Director of Special Litigation in the Missouri Attorney General’s Office. He is a nominee to be a United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri and the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri.[1]
Education
Divine earned his Bachelor of Arts from received his Bachelor of Science, summa cum laude, from the University of Northern Colorado, and received his Juris Doctor from Yale Law School, where he was a member of the Yale Law Journal and the Yale Law & Policy Review.
Early career
Bailey clerked for William H. Pryor Jr. on the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.[2] He was an assistant solicitor general for Missouri from 2017 to 2019, and was named Solicitor General of Missouri in 2023.[2] He is a member of the Federalist Society.[2]
Nomination to district court
On May 6, 2025, President Trump announced his intent to nominate Divine to serve as a United States District Judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri and the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri. On June 4, 2025, a hearing on his nomination was held before the Senate Judiciary Committee. On June 26, 2025, the Committee reported his nomination favorably to the senate floor. His nomination is currently pending before the full Senate.[3]
