Joshua Oduyemi (born Seun Joshua Oduyemi on May 14, 1983) is a Nigerian-American venture capitalist, industrialist, businessman, and global investor. He is regarded as one of the founding figures of Silicon Valley and currently serves as General Partner and Group CEO of Sheatrust Capital and Multicent. Joshua is recognized as one of the pioneering American investors in Silicon Valley, with a focus on investments in technology, healthcare, enterprise software, energy, biotech, and pharmaceutical companies.

At Sheatrust Capital, Seun plays a pivotal role in investing and financing early-stage to growth enterprises software, data, and technology-enabled startup companies. 

Early Life[edit]

Joshua was born in Lagos Mainland, Nigerian, and at the age of 7 he moved to Opebi Allen in Ikeja with his parents. He was raised in Ikeja and Ogba-Ijaiye area of Lagos state, a suburb of Ikeja town, and attended Government college Ikorodu, Jubril martin High school. Joshua earned a BSc in mechanical Engineering, from Delta State University in 2005 and later attended Delta State University for another program in industrial chemistry and petrochemical from Delta State University, Abraka[1]. he received his master's degree in Coastal Engineering and Port Development from the UNESCO-IHE Delft Institute for Water Education.

Seun is known for his strong investment focus on mobile, enterprise software, Seed/early-stage startups and growth companies, including successful investments in Zoom, weebly before it was acquired by Square, Opendoor, Republic, Wework, Multicent, Chartboost, Landhoven energy and WhatsApp before acquire by Facebook In 2014, Oduyemi announced he was stepping back from his leadership duties as co-Ceo with Sheatrust Capital, but continues to invest and represent the firm on company boards and seat as an executive chairman

Career[edit]

Joshua Oduyemi began his career as a business analyst at Platinum Bank in Ikeja, Lagos, followed by positions at FCMB and Guaranty Trust Bank. He later transitioned to the oil and gas industry, working with Halliburton and Schlumberger in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, and then Schlumberger in Norway from 2008 to 2014.

In 2012, Joshua relocated to the United States, where he became Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Drilling and Head of Corporate Development, Mergers, and Acquisitions for Schlumberger in Houston and Bismarck, North Dakota. He later advanced to AVP, leading projects and mergers for various natural gas projects. In 2015, despite being offered the role of Vice President of Mergers and Acquisitions at Schlumberger, Joshua chose to pursue entrepreneurship and founded Cisoil, an oil and gas company based in Houston, Texas.

A year later, in January 2013, he co-founded Sheatrust Capital with Mark Benchmark, which grew to become the largest African private equity and venture capital firm, managing over $16 billion in assets. At Sheatrust, Joshua oversaw major investments, including Landhoven Energy and Multicent. As of 2021, the firm had raised over $16 billion in funding.

In 2016, Joshua was recognized as one of Silicon Valley immigrants Private Equity International’s Game Changer of the Year for his achievements at Sheatrust Capital. He also played a key role in advising on PayPal’s acquisition of Xoom. By 2017, Joshua assumed leadership of Sheatrust Capital’s U.S. operations from his co-founder, Mark Benchmark.

In April 2022, Sheatrust Capital announced that Joshua would step down as co-CEO in July, transitioning to the role of Executive Chairman while Mark Benchmark took over as CEO. Throughout his career, Joshua has led or co-led numerous investments in early-stage and growth-stage companies, solidifying his reputation as a key figure in the private equity and venture capital space.

Multicent[edit]

in 2021, Seun founded Multicent[2], an American financial services company headquartered in San Francisco, California, that provide online banking services, payment processing, facilitates commission-free trades of stocks, exchange-traded funds, cryptocurrencies, via a mobile app and it provide payment infrastructure platform that allows merchant and small - middle businesses to accept payment anywhere in the world, introduced in May 2021. as of 2022, Multicent [3]has growth to a total of 358,000 customers on their waiting list[4] and the company has expanded to U.K, Canada south American and across the African continents.

Personal Life[edit]

Seun enjoyed playing golf and he is an active member of Rotary International Club, Oduyemi[5] and golf club member. love to provide service to others, and his dedicated to promoting integrity, and advance global understanding, goodwill, and peace. He achieved this through his investment in the fellowship fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.
