The Jovo Framework is an open-source TypeScript framework created by the co-founders Alexander Swetlow and Jan König of Linked Experiences, Inc.. Jovo allows developers to create cross-platform voice applications with a single codebase. Supported platforms include Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. Additional features include local development, debugging, and integrations for database, analytics, and content management systems. The Jovo Framework is an officially recognized Alexa Skill building tool by Amazon[4].

    History[edit]

Version 1.0 of the Jovo Framework was published in February 2018, which included platform support for Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, a command line interface, and templates[5]. The initial version was built in JavaScript. January 2019 followed with version 2.0, a release that included a rewritten, modular architecture in TypeScript, and additional integrations[6]

    Features[edit]

The Jovo Framework offers the ability to develop voice applications for both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant in one code base. Additionally, it provides toolkits like a command line interface, an abstracted language model, and plugins. As of version 2.1, released in March 2019, every publicly available Alexa Skill and Google Actions feature is available in the Jovo Framework.[7]

The Jovo Framework offers the following features:

    • Cross-platform applications
    • Local development with the Jovo Webhook[8]
    • Unit testing[9]
    • Deployment and staging

    Supported platforms[edit]

Jovo Framework initially supported Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant[10]. With the release of version 2.1, the framework also added support for Facebook Messenger and Slack text-based chat applications.[11]

    Community[edit]

The Jovo Community is meeting and discussing feature ideas and the development roadmap in the Jovo Community Forum.
