Joyce Ngwane Puta now retired, is the first Zambian woman to be awarded the rank of Brigadier general in the Zambian Army. She is a former director of administration in the defense forces. A headline in the Zambian News Network dated 1 December 2013 sighted her to be "a woman with an exceptional vocation".[1] Under the same headline, she was again cited by the Zambian News Network on their sports segment, advising that women serving in the military should not compete with their male counterparts in sports. She has spoken on many foras organized by the Africa Center for Strategic Studies addressing different topics including 'Civil Military Relations' at the 2016 Next Generation of African Security Sector Leaders Program hosted by the Africa Center for Strategic Studies.[2] 'Overcoming Leadership Challenges' at the 2014 Next Generation of African Security Sector Leaders Program[3] and 'Strategic Leadership in Africa's Security Sector'[4]
