Jude Powell (born 4 July 2003) is an English actor and filmmaker. He is a British Sign Language user, and his second language is English. On television, he is known for his role as Jake Green in the Acorn TV crime drama The Chelsea Detective (2025).[1]

Career

In January 2024, Powell began his acting career and auditioned for a role in the short film Ava's Story, produced by Mutt & Jeff Pictures. He portrayed the character Adrian[2] in a short film for the SignHealth charity, directed by Danny Murphy, known for his role as a deaf boy in the 2019 Hollywood film The Part You Lose. The short film was premiered at Deaffest 2024[3] at the University of Wolverhampton but was later confirmed to be removed.

Powell signed with Aston Management Agency[4] for representation in February 2024. Aston Management is located in Henley-on-Thames, near the crossroads of Oxfordshire, Berkshire, and Buckinghamshire. The agent's CEO,[5] who is a member of Directors UK and a full voting member of BAFTA, discovered him while he was in college in 2023.

In August 2024, Powell made his television debut[6] as Jake Green in the crime drama series The Chelsea Detective on Acorn TV for its third season after auditioning in Soho, London. The series starred Adrian Scarborough and Vanessa Emme, was created by Peter Fincham, and was directed by Richard Signy. During filming, he learned how to connect with the hearing actress who portrayed Stacey Ford, even though he is non-verbal[7] and uses BSL for communication. He also found it interesting to learn from the mudlark advisor how to search for items on the Thames foreshore between Battersea Bridge and Albert Bridge.[1]

A few months later, Powell took on another role as the client[8] in the drama-comedy television movie The Chris Baker Show on Lumo TV. Powell accepted the second offered role as a second assistant camera while substituting for someone else. In March 2025, the premiere was released at the Curzon Hoxton[9] in London, the same day BSL Zone changed its name to Lumo TV.
