Julia Mouce is a freediving coach, instructor, and athlete, based in Bali, Indonesia. She is a former two time freediving National Record holder for Argentina, she is most well known for her coaching and mentorship of competitive freeediving athletes, having coached notable freediving athletes including AIDA & CMAS French National Record Holder Thibault Guignes[citation needed] and Chinese National record holder Aolin Wang.[1]
Early life and career[edit]
Mouce started her career as a watersports professional as a professional lifeguard in Argentina at age 17. She started freediving in Thailand in 2007 and became an Apnea Total instructor and eventually a Apnea Total Freediving Instructor Trainer in 2013.[citation needed] In 2012, she founded her school Apnea Bali in Tulamben, Indonesia.[2][3][4]
She is a certified Molchanovs, AIDA , Apnea Total and PADI Freediving Instructor Trainer. She is an AIDA International Judge and acted as an editor and part of the commission that created and launched the AIDA Youth (kids) freediving program, launched in 2020.[citation needed] She was the organizer, host and head of safety for Southeast Asia's first freediving depth competition, One Breath Jamboree.[5]
Athletic Accomplishment[edit]
Mouce has two National Records in freediving for Argentina in the freediving disciplines of Constant Weight and Constant Weight No Fins.[2] At the time of her records, she was the first Argentinian woman on record to achieve those depths on record for constant weight diving and constant weight no fins.[citation needed]
Competition organization[edit]
She and her school also serve as the host of and provide the location for international freediving competitions[6] as well as freediving world record attempts. [5][7][8] Mouce has been the host, organizer and Head of Safety for the following freediving depth competitions:
- One Breath Jamboree (Oct 2013)
- Yazbeck Chinese Depth Challenge (Sept 2016)[2]
- Miguel Lozano World Record Attempt (Apr 2016)[7]
- Apnea Association of Singapore (AAS) Competition (2017, 2018[9], 2019[10])
- Apnea Bali Mini Competition (April 2018)[8]
- Australian Freediving Association (AFA) Depth Championship (2016[11], 2018[12])

Mouce has three times been featured as a guest on the podcast Freedive Cafe, a podcast that interviews one prominent figure in the freediving community per episode. As of September 2021, she is the only guest to have three dedicated episodes.[13]
Her interview for Freedive Cafe, Episode 28, covered such freediving topics as her early waterspouts activity, the founding of Apnea Bali, teaching herself to handsfree equalize, lung squeeze, and her thoughts of psychological resilience.[4]
Freedive Cafe, Episode 52, discussed revised topics of lung squeeze and how to return to depth after an injury, freediving competitions, and training techniques for those with depth limitations.[14]
