Julio César Betancur Betancur is a Colombian biologist, botanist and professor.
Biography
Julio Betancur was born in San Antonio de Prado, Medellín, he studied Biology at the University of Antioquia and contributed to the knowledge of the bromeliads from Antioquia. He did his postgraduate studies at the National University of Colombia and his thesis was on the systematics of the Sodiroa group (Guzmania).[1]
Between 1986 and 1991 he worked at the University of Antioquia as a research assistant. He later moved to Bogotá and has worked as a professor at the National University of Colombia ever since.[2]
He is a member of the Colombian Botanical Association, the Latin American Botanical Association, the Marie Selby Botanical Garden, the José Celestino Mutis Botanical Garden and the Smithsonian Institution.[1]
