Justin Garrett Moore is an American urbanist designer and entrepreneur who served as the executive director for the Art Commission from 2016 to 2020.[1][2][3] He co-founded Urban Patch, an Indianapolis based social enterprise, and currently manages a historical community program under the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Humanities in Place.[4] He graduated from Columbia University GSAPP in 2004 with a Master of Architecture and an M.S. in Architecture and Urban Design, where he also teaches as an adjunct associate professor of architecture in Columbia GSAPP’s urban design program.[5]

Justin Garrett Moore was born September 16, 1979 in Indianapolis, Indiana. In 1997, Moore graduated as a valedictorian from Arlington High School.[6]
Career[edit]
Moore began working as an urban designer and planner for the New York City Department of City Planning in 2005.[7] He became a senior urban designer at the commission in 2009 before his executive position. In 2016, New York City mayor, Bill de Blasio, announced Moore's appointment as executive director of the Public Design Commission, citing his "passionate voice for inclusive, public design."[3] It was announced his term would begin April 18, 2016.
On December 16, 2020, Moore joined the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation as the inaugural program officer implementing the Foundation's strategic plan in the Humanities in Place program area.[8] It was also announced that he would work with the Monuments Project, a five-year, $250 million grant initiative launched earlier in the fall of 2020.[9]
