Justin Mayweather Jones (born April 21, 1987) is an American professional boxer in the Light middleweight division, Justin is a member of the Mayweather boxing family; his father is boxing trainer and former welterweight contender Floyd Mayweather, Sr. his uncle's are two-division world champion Roger Mayweather, and former Super featherweight titleholder Jeff Mayweather.
Early life[edit]
Justin Mayweather Jones was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on April 21, 1987, into a family of boxers. His father, Floyd Mayweather Sr., was a former welterweight contender, His uncles (Roger Mayweather and Jeff Mayweather) were professional boxers, his uncle Roger – won two world championships, his uncle Jeff - is a former IBO super featherweight champion, Justin was born with his mother's last name Jones, Floyd Mayweather, Sr. took a DNA test in 2007 and he was confirmed to be Justin's biological father. Quoted in the Grand Rapids Press, Jones explained: "Since I was 16 and started coming up to the gym, people kept telling me I looked like a Mayweather," Jones added: "After a while, I couldn't stand it any longer -- I called him up and asked him if he'd take a DNA test." Mayweather did not run from the request but in fact was happy to provide a DNA sample. Floyd Mayweather, Sr. explained: "They said it was 99.9 percent positive and that was close enough for me," Mayweather added: "We started a relationship then, but I haven't had a chance to bring him here to work with him because we've been so busy with Floyd Jr.'s fight. I plan on working with Justin a lot."
Professional career[edit]
On July 6, 2013 Justin Mayweather Jones made his pro debut vs. Rick Ogden at Fifth Third Ballpark, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Winning by "TKO" in 1:38 of the 2nd round, he scored two knockdowns against Kalamazoo, Michigan’s Ogden at 1:38 of the second round. Ogden falls to (0-3). Jones told Fightnews.com that he is the son of Floyd Mayweather, Sr., his uncle Roger Mayweather was in attendance. As a boxer Justin is known for a good but not great defense, fast hands and a stiff jab. His father and current trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. is teaching him a defensive technique known as the shoulder roll, in which the fighter uses his front shoulder to deflect blows and limit their impact.
