Carlton Williams Bongo Juma (15 November 1979 – 29 November 2003), better known by his stage name K-Rupt, was a Kenyan rapper. He was shot to death in his hometown of Nairobi during a carjacking in 2003.[1]
Career[edit]
K-Rupt's collaborated with artists such as Fizzle Dogg, Bigpin, and E-Sir, who died earlier the same year.[2] He also did concerts with fellow hip hop musician Nameless and was signed to the record label Ogopa Deejays. His hit singles in Kenya included “Changamshwa,” “Tukawake,” and “Chacha.” His single “Dada Njoo” was on the charts at the time of his death.[1] The song “Bamba”, with fellow rappers the late E-Sir and Bigpin, became a hit. It had been recorded before his stint as a stand-by presenter at Nation FM.[citation needed]
Death[edit]
On 29 November 2003, Juma was fatally shot by gang members who carjacked a matatu he was riding to a concert in Nairobi. Witnesses said he had engaged in an argument with the gangsters before he was shot, and his body was later dumped in Laikipia Forest, according to police.[3] Juma was 24 years old.
