KANTO – National Agent Data

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

KANTO – National Agent Data is a data repository and authority file containing the standard name forms of agents, who are the authors or subjects of materials published in Finland. These name forms are generated in connection with creating descriptions for the Fennica - The Finnish National Bibliography. In addition to the descriptions of persons and organisations related to publications produced in Finland, Kanto contains some data on foreign persons and organisations. Kanto is an online version of the Asteri name database.

The Finnish National Agent database contains metadata on nearly 155,000 people and around 49,500 organisations (July 2021). The language of agent descriptions is Finnish, but texts and titles in the online view have been translated into English. The metadata includes ISNI and Orcid idenfiers when available.

Kanto is maintained by the Agent Metadata Service of the National Library of Finland. The id on the LOC source list for the Kanto database is finaf. All agents have a permanent identifier in the http://urn.fi/URN:NBN:fi:au:finaf: namespace. Kanto replaces the earlier Finnish Corporate Names database.
