The M. Narikbayev KAZGUU University (Kazakh: КАЗГЮУ Университеті) is a private higher education institution located in Nur-Sultan that was established in 1994.

There are 4 schools at the university: the Higher School of Humanities (HGS), the Higher School of Law (HSP), the Higher School of Economics (HSE), the Graduate School of Law and the Business School.

The KAZGUU University was founded in 1994 in accordance with the Decree of the President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.

On 5 November 1996, KAZGUU was transformed into the Kazakh State Law University by the Decree of the Government of Kazakhstan and transferred from the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Justice to the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education and Science.[1] From 1997, the journal "Law and State" has been published.

In 2000, the Kazakh State Law University was merged with the Institute of State and Law of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and on 14 February 2000, the Kazakh State Law Academy was established.

On 24 October 2001, KAZGUU was transformed into the Kazakh Humanitarian and Legal University with a location in the city of Astana. The head university moved to Nur-Sultan in 2002 to which a branch of KAZGUU in Astana was established in the 1998–1999 academic year.

In September 2007, KazGUU signed the Great Charter of Universities in Bologna and on 2 July 2008, with the participation of the President Nursultan Nazarbayev, a solemn ceremony of opening a new educational building of KAZGUU with a total area of 32,235.1 m2, located on the left bank of the Ishim river, along the Korgalzhinskoe shosse Street 8 took place.

On 3 January 2013, the Independent Kazakhstani Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (certificate of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 27 June 2012 No. BFM-001) issued a Certificate of Institutional Accreditation to KAZGUU. That same year, on the eve of the 20th anniversary of the university, the Development Strategy "2013-2020 - a world-class university" was adopted.[2]

On 10 February 2015, the educational institution underwent the state re-registration of the Joint Stock Company KazGUU University.[3]

On 30 June 2016, the programs of the Higher School of Economics Bachelor of Finance and Bachelor of Accounting and Auditing were accredited by the ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants).

On 30 September 2016, the KAZGUU University passed the international accreditation FIBAA (Foundation for International Accreditation of Programs in Business Administration).[4]
