kDrive..[1] is an online information storage, editing and file sharing solution. The service can be used from a web browser, its desktop application or its mobile app. Entirely developed and hosted in Switzerland by Infomaniak Network SA[2], kDrive is constantly evolving.

    History[edit]

Infomaniak conducted a soft launch of kDrive in December 2019[3] after three years of research and more than CHF 8 million invested[2] (the first phase involved 20 engineers for more than 12 months). A mobile application for iOS and Android based on the Nextcloud open source project was released at the same time. kDrive went on general release in January 2020. An update released in April 2020[4] included new features: editable public links, advanced sharing management, display of the complete path of shared items, addition of common folders for working in teams, addition of comments to files. July 2020[5] saw kDrive launch an additional feature: a drop box that allows files to be requested from external users. October 2020 saw kDrive acquire compatibility with My kSuite[6][7] , a paid option that allows kDrive to be customised with the user’s domain name, colours, background images and logo[8] March 2021 saw LiteSync become available on Windows for on-demand synchronisation.

    Storage space[edit]

The free version comes with an ik.me email address[9] and allows the storage of up to 3 GB of data, which paid versions[10] – Team and Pro[11] – increase to 2000 GB (2 TB) or even more. In order to ensure the end-to-end security and confidentiality of the data, Infomaniak uses its own infrastructure to store users’ files. The data are end-to-end encrypted[12] on the servers and stored on three platforms in two datacenters.

    Technical specifications[edit]

kDrive enables the synchronisation of files between different computers, tablets and smartphones. In particular, the service allows automatic synchronisation with Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, hubiC, ownCloud and Nextcloud[13][14]. The service fully supports the WebDAV[15][16] protocol and allows kDrive to be synchronised with a Synology NAS or a QNAP cloud[17]. File sharing is available with external users using the drop box facility and public sharing links[18] The integration of OnlyOffice[19][20] allows kDrive to offer online editing of Word, Excel and PowerPoint files. The document and image viewer (PDF, OpenDocument, jpg, cr2, img,...) is accessible via any web browser or via its desktop or mobile application. The service offers an automatic synchronisation option called LiteSync. Infomaniak is GDPR-compliant[21][22] and not subject to the CLOUD Act, the NSA or Hadopi[16]. Data is hosted in Switzerland with the aim of offering an independent cloud whose data is secure (encryption of files on the server, end-to-end encryption of the connection).
