Siyabonga Mkhize (born January 24, 1994), best known by his stage name KLY (an acronym for Keep Love Young), is a South African hip hop and sultry singer, songwriter and record producer. He is most known for his major 2016 single "Too Much" which features fellow South African hip hop artist Riky Rick.[1]
Early[edit]
Mkhize was born in the coastal city of Durban. He eventually relocated with his family and was raised in Midrand, a northern suburb of Johannesburg.
During his high school years, Mkhize was part of a hip hop krump dance crew known as the 300 CRU. The crew has participated as a hosting act for Krump dance originator Tight Eyez.[2]
Mkhize went on to complete his high school studies at the end of the 2012 academic year.
Music career[edit]
KLY is a sultry singer who incorporates elements of hip hop, R&B, Jazz and trap music. He has been said to be pursuing in the footsteps of singers like Drake, PartyNextDoor, Tory Lanez and Bryson Tiller, with an African flavor and adding venecular adlibs to his music.[3]
KLY has done and published cover tracks throughout his college years, among them was "Girls Love Bonang" which was a cover of "Girls Love Beyonce" originally performed by Drake.
KLY honed his songwriting and production skills at Anashe Media Group's boot-camp.
In April 2016, KLY released his first commercial single titled "Soul Touch", which was produced by Wichi 1080. In June 2016, KLY released his first EP titled KLYMAX.[4] The EP was re-released as a digital retail mixtape chopped down to 12 songs, on 4 November 2016. The re-release of his mixtape was preceded by his major commercial single "Too Much", a single produced by Wichi 1080 and features a guest verse from Riky Rick.[5]
