KMMC-LD, digital and virtual channel 40, is a low-power television station in the San Francisco Bay Area market licensed to San Francisco, California, United States. Its transmitter is located atop San Bruno Mountain.
History
A construction permit for KMMC-LP, analog channel 40, was granted by the FCC on June 30th, 2003.[1]. Owned by Caballero Television, the station began operation on September 15, 2004 as a Mas Musica owned-and-operated station, hence the call-letters[2]. On September 25, 2006, it switched to the new MTV Tr3́s network (now simply known as Tr3́s since July 2010), which was created as a result of Viacom's acquisition of Más Música[3].
On November 7, 2011, the station flash cut to Digital and became KMMC-LD but remained on its pre-digital channel, 40[4]
On December 4th, 2014, New York Spectrum Holding Company purchased KMMC-LD from Viacom[5]. Upon closure of the sale, the station dropped the Tr3́s affiliation and switched to a series of networks over the subsequent years including 3ABN Latino, Retro TV, and Rev'n. The station currently airs infomercials on its .1 subchannel and Kpop on its second subchannel.
Future
Because of the digital television repack, KMMC-LD's owner applied to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to move its digital broadcast channel to 14, a channel it will share with Daystar-owned-and-operated KDTS-LD. It will use PSIP to continue to display as virtual channel 40.
Digital channels
The station's digital signals are multiplexed:
Channel | Video | Aspect | PSIP Short Name | Programming[6] |
---|---|---|---|---|
40.1 | 480i | 16:9 | KMMC-LD | Infomercials |
40.2 | Kpop |
