MCW 301–302 is Diesel-hydraulic multipele unit is an executive class, non-air conditioned business (coded MBW) and economy-class non-air conditioned, manufactured by Nippon Sharyo. Japan from 1976 to 1987 and operated by PT Kereta Api Indonesia. Although MCW is the code for economy class DHMU only, this DHMU is better known as KRD MCW regardless of the train class to distinguish it from other DEMU types such as ex BN-Holec DEMU.
The DHMU is divided into two types, namely the MCW 301 and MCW 302. MCW 301–302 was brought in with Rheostatik EMU and was made by the same factory, therefore the body design is quite similar. The design of this train is also quite similar to the DMU in Japan, namely the JNR KiHa 20 and kiHa 52 series DMU , but the glass is similar to the KiHa 58. This train is powered by diesel hydraulic, because at that time the axle load on Indonesian railways was still low. MCW 301–302 striking feature is the "bow tie" slogan on top of the driver's cabin glass.
MCW 301–302 has experience traveling to most of the railway lines in Java and some have served in North Sumatra. Throughout its career, this train has experienced leading commuter train services from the PJKA (Perusahaan Djawatan Kereta Api) era, Perumka (Perusahaan Umum Kereta Api), to Kereta Api Indonesia. MCW 301–302 fleet is often used for commuter train circuits, both on main and branch lines and for short and medium distances.
Initially, MCW 301 used the Shinko DMH17H engine and the Niigata-Shinko TCR 2.5 hydromechanical transmission (also known as the Shinko-Shinko DMU) which is the type used also in DMUs which are quite similar in Japan such as the JNR KiHa 52 and 58 series. Prolonging service life and increasing reliability, a few years later the DMU engine was changed to the Cummins NT855 R5 and Voith T211r transmission.[1]
Uses[edit]

MCW 302[edit]
Which was imported in 1987, a total of 28 units had used Cummins engines since the beginning of their service, while the rest had their engines changed at PT INKA.
