KTU Shipyard

KTU Shipyard, also known as PT Karya Teknik Utama, is an Indonesian shipbuilding and ship repair company that is privately owned and operated. The company was founded in 2001 and is a subsidiary of the Karya Teknik Group.

KTU specializes in shipbuilding, as well as ship maintenance, conversions, repairs, refit, and decommissioning for the Indonesian shipping industry. Its product line also includes tugboats, barges, crane barges, tankers, and cement carriers.

History[edit]

KTU Shipyard began in 1982 as a marine workshop in Jalan Kalap, Jakarta. It purchased a yard in Marunda and was able to construct its first shipyard in Segulung, Batam, in 2001.

KTU built a second shipyard in Sekupang in 2005 and teamed up with Groot Ship Design on a new type of DWT multipurpose vessels in 2019.[1]

In March 2020, KTU and Robert Allan LTD. announced a collaboration with the objective of producing ASD (Azimuth Stern Drive) tugboats.[2] This was followed by the delivery of a twin steel tug, named Karya Pacific 2232, with RAL's TRA2700 design to Karya Pacific in 2022.[3]

As to date, KTU Shipyard have total of 4 shipyards located across Indonesia.

Sagulung[edit]

Sagulung has 1,000-meter launch path which facilitates shipbuilding. This yard can also accommodate the construction of 40 vessels at once with the help of its machinery and workshops. Its workshops include auto blasting, bending, shearing, CNC, and lathe.

Tanjung Riau[edit]

This yard contains the PEMAMEK assembly line and 400-ton crane by KONECRANES. Its facilities focus more on storage and workshops.[4]

Marunda[edit]

Marunda has a Cimolai which aids in lifting vessels. It also facilitates majority of KTU's ship repairs.

Sekupang[edit]

This yard housed majority of repairs and production of different barges.
