KT Tyres is a small, family-run business located in Carletonville, Merafong City in Gauteng Province, South Africa.
The tyre shop was established in 2012 by Kyle Campbell, who still runs the business today.[1]
History
KT Tyres first opened its doors on 10 September 2012, and worked exclusively with tyres – selling new and used tyres, fitting, balancing & repairing tyres. In early 2013, the business started selling rims too. In 2014, KT Tyres expanded the business by purchasing a wheel alignment machine and started offering 3D wheel alignment and also started filling tyres exclusively with nitrogen. In 2017, mag repair and refurbishing was added to the list of services offered, and by 2018 they added a mechanical workshop to do suspension and other mechanical vehicle repairs.[2]
Tyre Shop
The tyre shop was opened in 2012 by Kyle Campbell, who saw an opportunity in the market with the aim of helping customers as quickly as possible, thus establishing a reputation for providing fast service to get the edge over competition.[3] At the time, KT Tyres only had 3 employees (incl. the owner) and worked exclusively on tyres, adding rims to their repertoire the following year and nitrogen filling in 2014, and finally hot cure vulcanising in 2018.[2]
Wheel Alignment
In 2014, the owner’s parents, Beverley and Duane, purchased a state of the art 3D wheel alignment machine and procured the shop next door to the tyre shop, as well as a well-known local wheel alignment expert technician[1] and started offering wheel alignment and suspension checks under the KT Tyres name.[2]
Mag Repair & Refurbishment
In 2017, Duane Campbell purchased a mag repair lathe and a TIG welding machine to do mag repairs and refurbishing, although they initially struggled to find a competent technician to do the work, resulting in the mags not taking off immediately. In late 2019, they obtained a vastly experienced expert mag repair technician from another mag repair business.[1] KT Tyres now offers aluminium welding, bending, spraying and polishing, all done by an expert.[2]
Mechanical Work
In 2018, a diagnostic & key coding machine was purchased and an experienced mechanic was obtained to deal with mechanical work on vehicles. There are now two mechanics onsite and a third expert mechanic is available on demand.[4]
