Kabul Bukhari (born 26 February 1990) is a singer of Kashmiri, Gojri, Pahari and Punjabi language. He is also a songwriter, poet, and folk music presenter.[1] Associated with Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages Bukhari is credited with creating and popularising the local musical tradition of Jammu and Kashmir and projecting it worldwide.[2][3][4] He usually sings accompanied by a native musical instrument resembling tongs like Tumbaknadi and Saz-e-Kashmir.[5] His folk music is representative of the traditional folk heritage of Jammu and Kashmir.[1]

For his outstanding work in the preservation of locally spoken languages, he has been awarded by the premier cultural institution called Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages - a Government-supported organization dedicated to the promotion of regional languages, art, and culture – in 2018, Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation and University of Jammu.[6][7][8]

Hailing from remote Karnah - a village near the Indo-Pak border Kabul is the son of renowned saint Syed Abdul Abdul Rehman. He did his primary schooling from his native village and then moved to Srinagar city for further studies. Bukhari started learning music under the tutelage of his brother Syed Tariq Pardesi, a famous folk singer of his belt, and later honed his skills in Mumbai University.[9] Bukhari’s melodious voice and decorous stage presence have made him one of the favorite folk singers of Kashmir. Bukhari insists that he has always preferred singing Kashmiri songs, despite having Pahari mother tongue.[10] He has gained popularity among the masses with "Saif ul Malouk", "Gojri - Meri Tohk Maanh, Kashmiri Songs "Ishq Pazar -and "Chayin Laaye. He also sang the songs "Pahadi Bait and Gojari Bait[1]
