Kabyle nationalism

Kabyle nationalism (or Kabylism), is a political and cultural and identitarian movement for the recognition of national aspiration of Kabylia and the empowerment of the Kabyle People in Kabylia. Its political corollary is the Kabyle independence, with the goal: creating a Kabyle sovereign independent nation-state with Kabyle as the only official language. Kabyle nationalism differs from Berberism by affirming the kabyle specific identity and its primacy over all others, including in all Berber-speaking territory. Kabylism belongs to the family of nationalism called "liberation", along with Catalan or Basque nationalism. Its antithesis is Algerian nationalism.

Kabyle nationalist parties include the MAK, which supports self determination for Kabylia, or argue that the Kabyles constitute a people of their own and distinct from other Algerians. The Kabylian nationalists defend the Kabyle identity , Territory, Culture, Language and History.

History

Kabyle Nationalism rose in the 18th century thanks to the Rahmaniyya, who was considered as a defender of kabylism.
