Kakivak

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

An Inuit Kakivak tip.

A Kakivak is an Inuit fishing tool that is used for spear fishing and fishing at the short range. It is comparable to a Harpoon or a Trident in function and shape. However, the Kakivak is notable for its tip's design, which has three prongs, the outer blades of which would stick into the primary prong if they were to continue forward. The two outer blades are to hold the meat on to the main blade to stop it from falling.[1]

Composition[edit]

The Kakivak is said to be made of ivory or bone for the spear, and driftwood, sticks, or rock for the handle.[2]
