Kal Technologies Private Limited (abbreviated as KalPay) is a Pakistani financial technology company that offers a buy now, pay later (BNPL) service. The company was founded in 2021 by Shershah Hassan and Waleed Amjad Islam,[1] and is a Shariah-aligned consumer financing startup.[2]

History[edit]

KalPay began operations in 2021. The company offers payment services for assets such as smartphones, and skill development services, particularly targeting the underbanked segment of the population.[3]

The company offers digitized lending, and is a Shariah-compliant fintech service provider in Pakistan.[2]

KalPay has partnerships with e-commerce merchants to offer a buy now, pay later (BNPL) service. This allows customers to make instantaneous purchases and settle payments in three equal monthly installments using cards, e-wallets, or bank transfers, with no interest or additional charges.

In 2022 the company began a collaboration with the online lending company Muawin,[4]

In 2023 KalPay began offering services called KalPay Rasayi,[5] and KalPay Taleem[6]

The company also collaborates with Taleem Finance Company Limited (TFCL) to offer flexible installment-based fee payment plans for students.[7][8]

The co-founders of KalPay, Shershah Hassan and Waleed Amjad Islam, were included in the Forbes 30 under 30 Asia List 2023 under the Finance and Venture Capital category.[9]
