Kaledon are an Italian power metal band from Rome, Italy.
History
Kaledon was formed in late 1998 by guitarist Alex Mele, after he ceased activity with his former band River Of Change, together with bass player Paolo Lezziroli and rhythm guitarist Tommy Nemesio. Shortly afterwards, drummer Daniele Staccini and vocalist Alexander Penta joined the band, which started to play in a classic Heavy Metal style, influenced by Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. After a few weeks, Alexander Penta left Kaledon due to conflicting schedules, being replaced by female singer Roberta Della Casa for a number of concerts in their native Rome, before settling on a full-time replacement, Anthony Drago.
In the summer of 1999, drummer Daniele Staccini was asked to leave the band, and Dario Sacco filled his place behind the kit. In the following months, Kaledon played extensively in their hometown, gaining some notoriety in the Roman underground metal scene. During this time, the band decided to switch from their original sound to a German-scene influenced power metal. The guitarist Alex Mele wrote a concept story: Legend Of The Forgotten Reign.
On the Kaledon website, in the Story section, it is possible to find the history of Legend Of The Forgotten Reign in English, but the translation in Italian is available in the Forum. This history is divided into six chapters narrated by six albums.
In the autumn of 1999, Kaledon produced, without a keyboard player, their first Demo Spirit Of The Dragon I. Subsequently, Fabio Bernardi, the keyboard player of River Of Change, joined the group as a guest for six months, and with his keyboards, it became more competitive. In this period, the keyboard player participated in the realization of two new Demos Spirit Of The Dragon II (the same preceding version, but with the keyboards) and God Says Yes I. Concluded the recordings, the band was supported by the radio broadcast Metal Massacre, conducted by the well-known figure of Baffo, who was also the band's manager.
On 16 June 2000, Kaledon played with Ronnie James Dio at the Foro Italico in Rome. Subsequently, the band replaced, due to personal problems, drummer Dario Sacco with David Folchitto (drummer of Stormlord and other underground bands from Rome) and Anthony Drago with Claudio Conti.
Kaledon recorded, with the new members, the new Demo God Says Yes II. The band used the same tracks from the preceding Demo God Says Yes I but with the new vocal parts of Claudio Conti. Finished the collaboration with Fabio Bernardi, the band found their new keyboard player: Daniel Fuligni (ex member of Ghost Rider).
Record deal and debut album
In November 2001, Kaledon signed a contract with the Italian company SteelBorn Records, a division of the company Northwind Records.
Between November 2001 and March 2002, Kaledon recorded their debut album Legend Of The Forgotten Reign - Chapter I: The Destruction. It was published in October 2002, and later they worked on a tribute to Manowar with the song Courage. The debut album was well received worldwide, and on October 20 they participated at Northwind Festival at Alpheus in Rome, attracting a lot of interest in their musical proposal.
Book
Alex Mele began to write his book for Legend Of The Forgotten Reign.[date missing] Immediately after the publication of their first chapter, they began to work on the second album. In April 2003 they entered the studio to record the new album and in July of the same year, they published their new album: Legend Of The Forgotten Reign - Chapter II: The King's Rescue. In the meantime, they worked on a tribute to Stratovarius with the song Father Time.
Kaledon engaged their new manager Dario Annibali.[when?]
To the beginning of 2004, the band worked on the third chapter, but unfortunately David Folchitto decided to leave the band to devote more time to other projects, and Alex Mele found his substitute in one of his preferred drummers: Jorg Michael, member of Stratovarius.
With this formation, in July 2004, Kaledon went to Como (Italy) and together with Jorg Michael they entered the Mirage studio for the recordings of the drum parts; the rest was recorded between October and December of the same year in the Outer Sound Studios in Rome by Giuseppe Orlando. These recordings were very long and difficult, but in the end, the new album Legend Of The Forgotten Reign - Chapter III: The Way Of The Light was a true masterpiece. During the realization of the third chapter, David Folchitto decided to rejoin the team.
The band began to propose dates for concerts and launches of gadgets and with the Kick Promotion Agency of Rome, it realized a great deal of interviews worldwide. Kaledon became a significant reality in the world of metal. Immediately later, also without a break, they began to work on the following chapter, but its publication was delayed due to their separation from SteelBorn Records because of the band’s inability to follow their path.
Kaledon signed a contract with a major European company, the German Hellion Records, which worked for the band in Europe; they also signed a contract with the American Universal Metal Production that offered a great possibility to the band: to publish their works in America.
In December 2006, in Europe, Kaledon’s fourth album was published, Legend Of The Forgotten Reign - Chapter IV: Twilight Of The Gods.
On 13 July 2007, Kaledon participated in the tenth edition of the Headbangers Open Air, while on 11 August of the same year they participated in the thirteenth edition of the Agglutination Festival with Gamma Ray.
In October 2007, Claudio Conti left the band due to some problems with the other members. Kaledon announced the beginning of auditions for a new singer, but only after one month they promoted Marco Palazzi to full vocals.
In 2013 they released their seventh studio album, Altor: The King's Blacksmith, under Scarlet Records.[1]
