Kanchan Banerjee is a thinker, researcher, and an author. He is a community and social leader in the US, especially for the Indian and Hindu-American communities, and has traveled to Nepal, the UK, Japan, Canada, South Africa, Trinidad & Tobago, and The Netherlands.

Early life and education

Kanchan Banerjee was born in a small village in the Barddhaman district of West Bengal state, India. He studied at Katwa College at Burdwan University. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Biology. He completed his Master’s Degree in Computer Science from Boston University, USA. He was initiated into the Yoga Tradition by Shri Jagadish Chandra Sanyal, who was a disciple of Sri Aurobindo and a member of the Anushilan Samity. He moved to USA in 1985 and has been living in the Boston area since then.

Career

Kanchan began his career as an IT professional at Fidelity Investments headquarters in Boston. He has worked for many multinational companies, such as Reuters, EMC2, and Data General, in various roles, including mid- to upper management. In 2007 Kanchan and his wife Haimanti launched a platform called The New Global Indian to connect Indian origin people globally. He then started an international magazine called ‘Global Indian Knowledge Exchange’ of which he served as the Editor In Chief until its operations were closed in 2017. He has co-founded the Boston Center of Excellence for Health and Human Development (www.theboce.org) and is currently serving as the Managing Director.

Activism

In 1990, he and a few other young students founded the largest student organization of Indian origin outside of India called the Hindu Students Council. Kanchan is an ardent follower of Swami Vivekananda and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Kanchan published his book ‘The Crash of a Civilization’ in July 2022, which became a best seller and one of the top 10 books in 2022-23 by Sahitya Talk. He cofounded the Global Indians for Bharat Vikas of which he is currently the president. He cofounded the Educators’ Society for the Heritage of India and is currently a board member. He is the Chairman of the New England region of IACC. He is the cofounder of Global Indian Business Council and a Vice President. Kanchan Banerjee said, “the youth must prove to ourselves that we can lead and show the way forward, the vision, in our actions.”[1]. In a recent interview, he said, Indian civilization survived the onslaught of many hostile forces.[2]. He is also associated with Tribeni Kumbho Porichalona Samity. In his Mann Ki Baat address, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi thanked this organization for revival of the age-old mahotsav.[3]
