Kappa (meme)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Kappa is a Meme to denote sarcasm[1] or lighthearted trolling on the Justin.tv and later Twitch.tv video streaming website.

History

Josh was one of the original programmers of Justin.tv, working on the chat interface. Many employees working on the site had emoticons of their faces. When Josh added his, it immediately became popular, most likely due to the smug appearance and/or Kappa being an easy-to-remember and fun word to type.[2]

In popular culture

Kappa is easily the most popular emoticon on Twitch.tv.[3] Its popularity has also risen in games that are popular on the website itself, such as League of Legends and Dota2.
