Kara Timurtash Pasha (d. March 1404) was a Lala, Beylerbey of Rumeli and a general of the early Ottoman Empire. Timurtash was a descendant of Aykut Alp, a comrade of Osman Gazi.
His father was Kara Ali Bey who again joined Osman Bey's struggle and in 1308 he was sent to capture of Alyos Island on Lake Apolyont with a detachment brought a priest, whose daughter Ali Bey later married. At the siege of Hereke Castle, he was hit in his eyes by an arrow.
Timurtash is distinct from his contemporaries: Ak Timurtash and Sari Timurtash. Sari served as governor of Işıklı, Sandıklı and Kütahya, briefly during the reign of Murad I. While, Ak served as the guardian of Sivrihisar.
According to Ruhî, Timurtash was a tutor to Bayezid I. Timurtash later succeeded Lala Şahin Pasha as the Beylerbey. İn 1382, Bitola was conquered by Timurtash and alongwith the castles of Prilep and Štip for the first time. In 1383, he invaded Bosnia and Albania.
Timurtash retained his powers strongly till his end. Timurtash is credited with formation of Kapikulu, Voynuks and provision to martyred's sons.
Timurtash had four sons: Yahshi, Aruj, Ali and Umur. Yahshi, the eldest was also the conqueror of Niš. During the Battle of Ankara, his sons: Ali and Yahshi participated; the former captured and the latter martyred. As a reward for their services Murad II rewarded Aruj with the title of Beylerbey in Anatolia, Ali the Sanjak-Bey of Manisa and Umur was made a delegate to the Germyanids. Ali had two sons: Jafar and Haydar. Umur was also mentioned by Ashikpashazade and was buried in Bursa.
In March 1404, Timurtash passed away. A Tombstone reads: "Malik al-Umara Timurtash bin Ali". Timurtash's name lives down in the Timurtash area in Bursa.
