Karen Wendt
Dr. Karen Wendt is an economist focused on sustainable finance, impact investing, and stakeholder engagement.[1] She has worked in investment banking, academia,[2][3] and social entrepreneurship.[4] She is known for her work in integrating sustainability into financial systems and positive impact investing.[5].
Professional career
Wendt has held leadership roles in international banking and sustainability, including her tenure at Unicredit/HVB AG, where she spearheaded the development and implementation of the Equator Principles, a globally recognized risk management framework for socially and environmentally responsible financing. As a board member of the Equator Principles Financial Institutions Association (EPFI) until 2016, she led stakeholder engagement and outreach initiatives in collaboration with the World Bank, OECD, UNEPFI, and other multilateral organizations.
She is the Founder and CEO of ECCOS Impact GmbH[6] and EccoScience e.V., organizations committed to advancing sustainable finance, applied research, and impact entrepreneurship. Through these ventures, she fosters innovation and partnerships in sustainable development.
Wendt advises on sustainable finance frameworks, conducts academic research, and delivers lectures at institutions such as Modul University Vienna and Vienna University of Economics and Business.
