Kareo is a company based in Irvine, California that provides software as a service for independent medical practices.[1][2] The company offers cloud computing products and services for electronic health record (EHR) management, medical practice management software, managed billing services and software to help practices engage with their patients. In 2019, the company reported over 55,000 providers using its technology.[3][4][5]

History[edit]

Kareo was established by former Scour Inc. founder Dan Rodrigues in 2004.[6] The company is headquartered in Irvine, CA and has offices in Las Vegas, NV and Indianapolis, IN.

In July 2013, Kareo made its first acquisition of a full-service provider of medical billing and associated solutions company, ECCO Health, LLC.[7]

Over the years, the company has received funding from a variety of venture capital firms, including CNET founder Halsey Minor's Minor Ventures and OpenView Venture Partners.[8]

Kareo acquired DoctorBase, a mobile-based patient engagement and practice marketing platform, on March 10, 2015.[9][2]

On April 2, 2015, the company announced that it joined Commonwell Health Alliance, a not-for-profit trade association of health IT companies working together to create universal access to health care data.[10]

On November 2, 2021, Kareo announced it was merging with healthcare marketing company PatientPop to form Tebra.[11]
