Carol Wells[1] (Boston, 1939), or KAROLINA, or ΚΑΡΟΛΙΝΑ (her signature), is a naïve painter of Mykonos.[2] She was born in the United States and since she was 23 years old she has lived in Mykonos, painting the sights of Mykonos and selling her works to tourists.[3][4][5]
She was born on 25 December 1939, in Boston and studied at Concord Academy, Colorado College, and the Boston School of Fine Arts.[1] In 1962 she visited Mykonos and she has lived there since, selling her paintings to tourists and locals.
Her work has been preferred by the locals for decades, as well as garnering international appeal,[6] in its capture of the simplicity of Greek life,[3] with naïve style.[2][5]
The life of Karolina has been presented on Greek television,[7] and she was an inspiration for a short story by Peter Selgin,[8] as well as a poem by Neil Meili.[9]
