Kasim Alfalahi (born 1965), is a global businessman. He was Chief Intellectual Property Officer for Ericsson from 2011 to 2016 and led the company’s licensing and patent development worldwide, helping to generate $1.6 billion USD in revenue in 2015.[1] [not in citation given]

Career Highlights
In 2011, Alfalahi represented Ericsson in the Rockstar Bidco consortium comprised of Ericsson, Apple, Blackberry, EMC, Microsoft and Sony[2][not in citation given] to acquire the Nortel patent portfolio for $4.5 billion USD.[2][3]
Between 2005 and 2016, during Alfalahi's tenure, Ericsson’s patent portfolio increased from 20,000 patents[4] to one of the largest in the industry, representing more than 39,000 patents and generating $1.7 billion USD in revenue.[5] Alfalahi secured patents covering key technologies for 2G, 3G and 4G networks and handsets, along with more than 100 license agreements with major industry players.[5]

- 2016 Huawei and Ericsson finalized a cross-licensing agreement covering standard-essential patents (including GSM, UMTS and LTE cellular standards).[15]
In 2016, Alfalahi left his position as Chief Intellectual Property Officer at Ericsson to create the independent Avanci patent licensing platform, a one-stop marketplace for wireless technology patents.[16][17] The platform launched with key telecom patent holders, including Ericsson, Qualcomm, InterDigital, KPN, and ZTE.[16][17][18] Numerous patent holders have joined Avanci since, including Sony, Sharp, Panasonic, PanOptis, Unwired Planet, Vodafone, IP Bridge, Blackberry, BT Mobile, TNO, Siemens, and NEC.[19][20][21][22][23][24][25] This platform centralizes licenses for 2G, 3G and 4G standard-essential patents across various sectors, including the Internet of Things (IoT), covering products from smart meters to connected cars.[18][26]
