Kathleen Beegle is an American development economist currently serving as Research Manager for Human Development at the World Bank Development Research Group.[1] Her research broadly focuses on the study of poverty in the developing world. She has also written extensively on the design and implementation of household panel surveys.[1]
Biography[edit]
Beegle received her BA in Economics and International Relations from the University of Delaware in 1991, and her MA and PhD in Economics from Michigan State University in 1993 and 1997, respectively, where she was supervised by John Strauss. Upon completion of her PhD, Beegle joined the RAND Corporation as a Post-Doctoral Fellow.
In 2001, Beegle joined the World Bank Development Research Group as an Economist, rising to the role of Lead Economist in 2013. She subsequently served as Lead Economist of the Office of the African Chief Economist and Gender Group of the World Bank. As of 2021, she was the Research Manager for Human Development. Beegle is also a Research Fellow at the IZA Institute of Labor Economics.
In Spring 2021, she taught at the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University.

Beegle has published over 40 peer-reviewed journal articles, and has contributed to policy reports including the World Development Report.
