The Kazakh–French colloquium on "Model Theory" is an academic conference for the topic of model theory. It was first organized by the French logician, linguist Bruno Poizat and the Kazakh logician T. Mustafin in Kazakhstan.[1]

History[edit]

Scientific cooperation between Tolendi Mustafin and Bruno Poizat began in the Soviet period. Their first meeting took place in the Novosibirsk Akademgorodok (1986). In 1989, Professor Bruno Poizat visited Kazakhstan at the invitation of Tolendi Mustafin (first in Almaty, then in Karaganda). They then agreed to organize a Soviet-French colloquium on "Model Theory" at the Karaganda State University in Kazakhstan in 1990. This colloquium has become the largest scientific forum in this field in Kazakhstan. It was a very bold step to organize such a large-scale event during the Soviet totalitarian regime. With the help of the colloquium, researchers in this field got the opportunity to visit foreign countries in the field of model theory.

More than 70 participants from all over the world took part in the colloquium. Of the neighboring countries, most of the participants were from USSR, and from afar there were a few researchers from France, led by Bruno Poizat. It was decided to hold a colloquium once every two years. In 1992 it was held in Marseille, in 1994 - in Almaty. The fourth took place in France (Marseille) in 1997. After the death of Tolendi Garifuly in 1994, this work was stopped. With support of prof. B.Poizat, we organized the Sixth Kazakh-French colloquium in Kazakhstan in 2000.

B. Poizat brought his students and followers to the colloquium and promoted fellowship among the youth. The sixth colloquium was held in Kazakhstan (Astana) in 2005.[2] Already now we feel the support and sincerity of our respected friend teacher Bruno Poizat. It's nice to communicate and meet him every time in Kazakhstan. Bruno Poizat - Honored Professor of E.A. Buketov Karaganda State University and L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University.
