Kazuo Toda
Kazuo Toda (戸田 一雄 Toda Kazuo, born 1941) is a Japanese business executive, the former representative director and vice president of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (now, Panasonic) and educator.
Career
Kazuo Toda was born in Osaka in 1941.[1][2]
He graduated from Shiga University [2][3] and joined Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (now, Panasonic) in 1964.[4][5]
He rose through the ranks to the level of director in 1994, managing director in 1996, representative & senior managing director in 1999 and representative director & vice president of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd in 2003.[1][4] In 2006, he became an advisor of Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (now, Panasonic).[6]
In 2007, he was appointed to the position of outside director of ASKUL Corporation, a major mail order company in Japan, in addition to being an advisor of the council, IAUD (International Association for Universal Design)[7] and a specially-appointed professor at Shiga University.[2] In 2019, during the dispute between ASKUL Corporation and Yahoo, Toda, as an outside director of ASKUL, insisted at a press conference held in Tokyo that the resignation of president (Shoichiro Iwata, founder of ASKUL) would not result in the increase of the corporate value of ASKUL and that ASKUL should negotiate including the dissolution of the capital tie-up.[8]
In 2007, he became the principal of Bunka Gakuin and an outside director of Askul Corporation.[1][4][9]
He served as a specially-appointed professor at Kyoto Institute of Technology.[1] In 2011, he was invited to teach at Shiga University again as a visiting professor.[4] In 2012, he became the chairman of the academic support association of "Ryōsuikai", alumni association of Shiga University.[4]
He served as the chairman of JAPAN VIETNAM BUSINESS SUPPORT CENTER[10] and is an honorary member appointed for life of Panasonic.[11]
