Career[edit]

Black co-founded Regatta in 1981, building on a business acquired by his father, Lionel Black.[3][4]

In 1978, Lionel Black bought Risol Trading, a London-based retailer of army surplus clothing.[3] When the company ran short of surplus army stock, Lionel Black started sourcing apparel from China and received a shipment of waterproof jackets with the name Regatta on.[3] Bringing his son, Keith, and daughter, Joanne, into the business, they collectively founded Regatta.[3]

In 1995, Regatta bought outdoor clothing suppliers Craghoppers.[3] The company also owns brand Dare2be and Hawkshead.[3]

In 2014, Black became CEO and chairman of the company, replacing his father.[5]

Black and his family retain a 95 percent stake in the business.[4]

Personal life[edit]

Based in Urmston, Greater Manchester, Black has a sister who is also active in the business.
