"Kelly Time" is the first single from the American electronica project Owl City's upcoming album Coco Moon. Kelly Time is based on the film Cast Away, starring Tom Hanks, Helen Hunt, and Nick Searcy.

The lyrics follow the plot of the movie, including various references to items or scenes. Some of these references include:

- "Video tapes and ice skates are beautiful things," referring to the FedEx packages Chuck Noland was shipping when he got stranded on the island

- "And I knew that you still loved the girl from Memphis, Tennessee," which refers to Chuck's girlfriend, Kelly Frears

Production[edit]

Kelly Time's production had started sometime before October of 2022, and the instrumental was released during a livestream[1] that winners of his ARG had access to. The instrumental was shown alongside 2 other instrumentals, one for the song "Adam, Check Please" and another for "Vitamin Sea." The song consists of mostly acoustic and synth instruments.

Release[edit]

Kelly Time was released to the public on January 6, 2023. Winners of the ARG, however, got early access to the song in the form of the "Open the Studio Door"[2] release. This has no noticeable differences to the original song, but was recorded by being played through a radio, to reduce audio quality.
