Kenneth Dahl Knudsen (1984) is a Danish bassist, composer, band leader and assistant professor[1] who received NORDJYSKE Kulturpris 2019 for his ongoing work on developing the Aalborg and North Jutland jazz scene.[2]
Career[edit]
Kenneth Dahl Knudsen lives in and works from Aalborg. He holds a position as assistant professor at the Royal Academy of Music lecturing in bass and entrepreneurship.[3] Beyond lecturing at the conservatory, Knudsen is also the musical director of Nordic Talent development initiative Young Nordic Stars. [4]
Knudsen is an active musician and composer, leading a number for jazz-related bands including the Kenneth Dahl Knudsen Trio, the Kenneth Dahl Knudsen Orchestra, the Skagerak Orchestra, the JAZZ9TUS Orchestra and the Pachamama Band. Knudsen has played and worked with Aaron Parks, John Scofield, Gilad Hekselman, Dick Oatts, Lingling Yu, Mayank Bedekar, Jonathan Blake, Joel Frahm, Francois Lindemann, Jaleel Shaw, Uri Gurvich, Tomasz Dabrowski and Gauthier Toux.
Furthermore, Knudsen has studied and developed tools for working with complex rhythm structures including The PolyRhythm App[5] and the e-Book The Rhythm Matrix. [6]
Awards and honors[edit]
In 2010, Knudsen received the 'Jazz Musician of the Year award' from the Danish Musicians' Association in Northern Jutland.[7] With Gauthier Toux Trio, he has received the 1st prize at La Defense Jazz Festival Competition (2016) [8] and the 1st prize at Jazz à Vienne’s RéZZo Focal. (2017) [9]
In 2019 Kenneth Dahl Knudsen received NORDJYSKE Kulturpris 2019 for his ongoing work on developing the Aalborg and North Jutland jazz scene.[10]
