Kenya–Philippines relations are bilateral relations between Kenya and Philippines.

History[edit]

Kenya and the Philippines first established diplomatic relations in 1967.[1] In 1975, the Philippines opened an embassy in Nairobi. In 2010, the two countries signed an agreement to strengthen political, economic, scientific, technical, social and cultural cooperation between the two countries.[2]

Migration[edit]

Approximately 300 Kenyans are estimated to be living in the Philippines.[2]

Trade[edit]

In 2013, Kenya exported goods worth KES. 463.38 million (US$5.07 million) to the Philippines. The Philippines exported goods worth KES. 660.56 million (US$7.23 million) in the same year.[3]

Kenya's main exports to the Philippines were: vegetable textile fibres, Jute and other textile bast fibres, metallic salts and peroxysalts, vegetables (fresh, chilled, frozen), household equipment of base metal, soap, cleansing and polishing preparations; oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; special yarns, special textile fabrics.[3]

The Philippines main exports to Kenya were: electric power machinery, fish, cosmetics, machinery and equipment for industry, printing and bookbinding machinery; cereal preparations, automatic data processing machines and telecommunications equipment.[3]

Diplomatic missions[edit]

  • The Philippines maintains an embassy in Nairobi.
  • Kenya's high commission in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is accredited to the Philippines.[4] It has no plans of opening an embassy in the foreseeable future, thus all consular matters are handled by the honorary consulate.
