Kenya Hunt is an American broadcaster, journalist, author, publisher of the GIRL: Essays on Black Womanhood.[1] and member of Steering Committee, British Fashion Council[2]. Kenya is the former Fashion Director of Grazia UK[3] and Deputy Editor of ELLE UK[4]. She is a writer for The Guardian,[5] and the Evening Standard[6] where she writes on fashion and lifestyle.

Early Life and Education[edit]

Hunt was born in Wuerzberg, Germany and raised in Tidewater, Virginia. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature from the University of Virginia and an MA in Literature and the Arts from Oxford University.​[7]

Career[edit]

During her post-graduate days she served as an Assistant Editor at the seminal magazine, Jane.[8] She's a journalist and the Deputy Editor of Grazia UK,[9] a position she has held since August 2019, Hunt sits on the British Fashion Council’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee​ and is the founder of R.O.O.M Mentoring,[10]​ where she advocates for greater diversity within the fashion industry.

Before joining Grazia UK, Hunt joined Elle UK​ in 2015,[11] where she had a range of roles including Fashion Features Director and later served as the magazine’s Deputy Editor. Her writing has been published in The Guardian, The Observer, The Washington Post, ELLE, Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, The Evening Standard and other publications and she has made a number of appearances on BBC Woman’s Hour, Sky News, CBS News and more.[12]

R.O.O.M Mentoring[edit]

In 2015, Kenya Hunt founded R.O.O.M Mentoring for Black, Asian, Muslim and marginalized groups.[13]​ R.O.O.M’s mentees have gone on to secure roles at The Telegraph, Grazia, Vogue, Glamour, Refinery29, The Sunday Times Style, Bottega Veneta and more and gone on to be selected for Fashion East, shortlisted for the LVMH Prize and win recognition from British Fashion Council NEWGEN.[14]

Publishing[edit]

Hunt published her first book, “Girl: On Womanhood and Belonging in the Age of Black Girl Magic” on the 26th of November 2020.[15] The book is a collection of original essays on what it means to be black, a woman, a mother and a global citizen in today’s ever-changing world.[16] It was published by HarperCollins.[17]

Personal Life[edit]

Hunt lives in London with her husband and two sons.
