Artlist is an Israel-based creative technology start-up company that specializes in royalty-free digital content. It offers content creators stock assets that are covered with a global unlimited license, meaning users can use them however they wish, including commercial use.
The company offers more than 880,000 licensed digital assets as of November 2021[1], along with its own video and image editing software.[2] Among the company’s biggest clients are Nike, Coca-Cola, Google, IKEA, Netflix and Dior.[3]
History[edit]
Artlist was founded in 2016 in Kibbutz Afikim in northern Israel by Ira Belsky, Itzik Elbaz, Assaf Ayalon and Eyal Raz. The company has its offices in Afikim, as well as in Tel Aviv, Ra’anana, and Norwich, UK.
At first, the company focused on royalty-free music through Artlist.io.[4] With the launch of their platform Artgrid in 2019, they expanded their business model to stock footage as well.[5] In 2020 the company added a sound effects catalog to its music platform. [6]
In June of 2020 Artlist raised $48M in a private funding round led by the investment company KKR, with contribution by venture capital firm Elephant Partners, who were already investing in the company. [7][8]
By the end of that year, Artlist announced its acquisition of Atlanta-based company Motion Array for $65M. With this acquisition, Artlist added additional features and assets to its products, such as video templates and creative tools.[9][10]
In 2021, Artlist registered with the copyright and royalty organizations ACUM, IMPEL, The MLC and ASCAP, in order to improve the licensing and the royalties collection processes for artists that contribute to Artlist’s catalogs.[11]
That same year Artlist announced the acquisition of FXhome, a Norwich-based software company that specializes in software and plugins for video and image editing, as its software division.[12][13]
Artlist has been recognized as one of the top start-up companies in Israel by Wired[14] and LinkedIn.[15]
